Phosphorus

Phosphorus is an important mineral and plays an important role on the body. The body needs phosphorus for many functions such as filtering waste and repairing tissues and cells.

Our body needs phosphorus to ensure strong and healthy bones, to help make energy and to move your muscles.

You can find phosphorus in many foods and usually foods rich in protein also contain a high amount of phosphorus. You can find phosphorus in meat, fish, legumes and dried fruit.

If you have a high calcium and protein diet, you are sure to get adequate amounts of phosphorus in your diet.

Even though having a diet high in phosphorus is important, you need to be aware of the amount of phosphorus you are consuming as high quantities can be toxic and can cause side effects such as diarrhoea.  It is quite rare to have too much phosphorus in your blood, but it is still recommended to pay attention to the amounts you consume.
