Selenium

Selenium is a trace element that isn’t only found in food but also in water and soil.

This mineral is a very important mineral. Correct levels of selenium act as an antioxidant defending the body from free radicals and inflammations, along with increasing the body’s immunity.

Selenium consumption improves fertility and reproduction, and reduces the risk of disease. Even so, the consumption of this mineral should be measured. Overdose of selenium – despite being unusual – can lead to fever, nausea, liver complications, and even kidney or cardiovascular problems.

The best natural food sources of selenium are whole foods, poultry, fish and eggs, among others. Care must be taken when preparing this type of food since selenium can be destroyed during the cooking process, especially when processes occur at high temperatures.
